Yes, there’s a Spotify 1 billion streams plaque, but which artists have received it? And why are some artists eating off of it?
After Drake achieved the first hit with over a billion streams on Spotify with his 2016 track “One Dance” from his Views album, it wasn’t long before more artists began to follow suit. The streaming platform compiled its Billions Club Playlist in 2021, featuring every song to achieve the milestone.
Spotify even issues artists with an official 1 Billion Streams plaque, many of whom have recorded videos of them eating on the plaque, given its close similarity to a dinner plate. So which artists have received the Billion Streams plaque?
We can assume that every artist on the Billions Club playlist has received or will receive their official plaque. While it’s difficult to ascertain when each artist received their respective plaques, we know about a few because they celebrated on social media by posting a video of them eating off their plaque — an act that has become sort of a tradition.
Artists Who Ate Off Their Spotify Billion Streams Plaque
- Drake enjoyed a few bites of spaghetti from his plaque when “In My Feelings” reached the billion streams milestone in September 2020.
- Halsey snacked on some Cheetos and M&Ms from her two plaques for “Without Me” and her Chainsmokers’ collaboration “Closer” a few weeks after Drake’s video.
- Joe Jonas noshed on some McDonald’s from his plaque for his side project DNCE’s “Cake by the Ocean.” We’re wondering why it wasn’t cake, to be honest.
